On October 29, 2024, Monroe County’s “Every Door is the Right Door” event was hosted at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to enhance collaboration among community organizations and raise awareness about available services in the area. The event, designed to support community leaders and organizations in tackling Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), gathered over 24 organizations, each sharing insights into their programs in five-minute presentations.
Purpose and Focus
The event was centered on addressing Social Determinants of Health, factors that impact individuals’ access to essential resources and services like healthcare, education, and safe living environments. Many communities in Monroe County face unique challenges related to these determinants, mirroring issues seen on a national scale. This gathering aimed to strengthen the network of support for residents by ensuring that organizations are well-informed of each other’s services and can effectively guide those in need to the appropriate resources.
Highlights from the Event
Each participating organization shared highlights of their specific services: FMC’s Presentation: Marcia Patton from FMC detailed the range of services offered, including Medical, Behavioral Health, Dental, and Pharmacy support, along with the introduction of new School-Based Health Centers, opened in September 2024, which aim to provide accessible healthcare for youth in educational settings.
Networking and Resource Sharing
In addition to presentations, the event featured tables where organizations displayed informational flyers and resources. Attendees also engaged in a 30-minute networking session, fostering potential collaborations and knowledge-sharing among organizations.
Impact and Goals
By offering this platform, Monroe County hopes to ensure that “Every Door is the Right Door” for residents seeking assistance. Enhanced awareness and coordination among community organizations are essential steps toward addressing the comprehensive needs of Monroe County residents and supporting a healthier, more connected community.
